Experience an engaging outdoor storytime designed especially for toddlers aged 2 to 4 years. Alton brings stories about Country and nature to life through interactive storytelling, language, and dance. This active yarning time encourages children to move, play, and connect with the environment around them.
Families are invited to stay after the session to enjoy the nature play area, which offers plenty of opportunities for messy play. Please dress children in outdoor clothing and enclosed shoes to ensure they can fully participate and stay comfortable.
In case of wet weather, an alternate indoor space with activities will be provided, ensuring the fun continues regardless of conditions.
The event lasts for one hour, starting promptly at 10:00 AM. Arriving on time is recommended to avoid missing any part of the storytelling.
Sessions run in all weather, so it’s advisable to bring a change of clothes, wet weather gear, hats, and sunscreen. Participants should bring their own drink bottles and morning tea.
Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. The event encourages calm sitting during storytelling and respectful behavior to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
The event takes place at the Ngoolark Space, an outdoor amphitheatre at Melville EcoHub, located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop, within Piney Lakes Reserve. Activities may also extend to trails in the reserve.
Accessible parking is available at the front of EcoHub. The venue features ramps and accessible toilets. Public transport is recommended, with a bus stop just a 2-minute walk away servicing multiple routes.
For specific access requirements, contact EcoHub directly via phone or email.
This storytime is part of the ongoing toddler program at EcoHub, including Buds & Blooms, Tales & Trails, and Freeplay. Quiet spaces are available for children who need a break.
Parents and caregivers are responsible for their children’s health and safety throughout the event. The program facilitator will provide instructions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Please note that the nature play area involves messy play, so appropriate outdoor clothing and enclosed shoes are essential.
Tickets cost $7 per child. Bookings can be made online through the event page.
The event is free for accompanying adults. Families are encouraged to subscribe to the City of Melville Sustainability and Environment e-newsletter to stay informed about upcoming events.
