Let your toddler move and play as they listen to stories about Country and the natural world around them. Alton’s interactive storytelling includes language, dance, and exploration, making it a lively and educational experience for children aged 2 to 4 years. Families are encouraged to stay after storytime to enjoy the nature play area, which offers plenty of opportunities for messy play, so dressing children in outdoor clothing and enclosed shoes is recommended.
This event runs for one hour and is designed to be informal, but arriving on time ensures you don’t miss any part of the experience. Sessions take place outdoors in the amphitheatre or on trails in the reserve, with an indoor alternative available in case of wet weather.
Storytime with Alton is part of the ongoing toddler program at EcoHub, which also includes Buds & Blooms, Tales & Trails, and Freeplay. The event encourages early learning by asking children to sit calmly and follow instructions, fostering a respectful and engaging environment for all attendees.
Parents and caregivers are responsible for supervising their children and ensuring their behaviour does not disrupt others. Quiet spaces are provided for children who may need a break during the session.
Sessions run in all weather conditions, so bringing a change of clothes, wet weather gear, hats, sunscreen, a drink bottle, and morning tea is advised. Shelter and indoor free play options are available if needed.
The event is held at the Ngoolark Space, located outside in the amphitheatre or on the trails of Piney Lakes Reserve at Melville EcoHub, 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop. Accessible parking is available at the front of EcoHub, with ramps and toilets on multiple levels.
Public transport is encouraged, with a bus stop just a 2-minute walk from the venue servicing multiple routes. Directions include taking the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway when heading westbound, or using a designated U-turn after Murdoch Drive when coming from Fremantle.
Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. The event is designed for toddlers aged 2 to 4 years and focuses on nature, language, and cultural storytelling. Outdoor clothing and enclosed shoes are essential due to the nature play and potential messy activities.
The event runs regardless of weather, with indoor alternatives provided during hot or wet conditions. Parents should prepare for all weather scenarios and bring necessary items such as wet weather gear and sunscreen.
Tickets cost $7 per child. Booking is required to secure a spot at this popular event. For more information and to book, visit https://events.humanitix.com/storytime-with-alton or contact EcoHub via email.
