What to Expect
Enjoy a fun, hands-on workshop where you will transform preloved denim and fabric into a practical, stylish accessory perfect for all seasons. This creative session is designed for all skill levels, so no advanced sewing experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm to get creative. The workshop is led by the Wild Woman of Willunga, who specializes in upcycling and sustainable fashion.
You'll learn simple upcycling techniques that help reduce waste while making something fresh and uniquely yours. All materials and equipment are provided, so you can relax and enjoy the process without any hassle. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend a creative afternoon, learn new skills, and contribute positively to the environment.
Activity Details
The workshop runs on 17 June 2026 from 12:30 to 15:30. It is suitable for parents looking for a meaningful and enjoyable activity to engage in, possibly alongside their school-aged children or as a personal creative outlet. The session will cover fabric selection, cutting, and sewing techniques to create a reversible bucket hat.
Participants will leave with a finished product they can wear proudly, knowing it was made sustainably. The cost is $15 per person, and spots are limited, so early booking is recommended to secure your place.
Location and Access
The event is held at 45 Albert St, Gumeracha SA 5233, Australia, within the Torrens Valley Community Centre. The centre is part of the Community Hub, which includes the Gumeracha Town Hall and library. There is ample parking available around the community hub, including disabled parking spaces with ramp access to the centre.
Facilities include toilets (including disabled access), baby change tables, a fully equipped kitchen, and a welcoming, inclusive environment. The centre is LGBTQI+ friendly and dementia friendly, making it accessible and comfortable for all community members.
Important Information
The community centre operates Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 15:00 and is closed on Fridays and public holidays. In the event of an Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating for the Mt Lofty Ranges, the centre will close, and classes will be cancelled with refunds or rescheduling offered.
Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring any personal items they may need. For evening events, a torch or phone light is recommended, but this workshop is during the day. The centre provides hot drinks, a microwave, and fridge facilities.
Booking and Prices
Tickets cost $15 and must be booked online due to limited spots. Booking early is advised to avoid disappointment. The workshop offers excellent value for a creative, sustainable craft experience with all materials included.
