Escape to Cockatoo Island for an exciting vacation care experience where history, creativity, and outdoor fun come together. Children will explore the island's convict past, participate in craft activities, and enjoy traditional First Nations sports games. Guided by knowledgeable staff, this program offers a unique blend of education and entertainment.
The program is designed for children in years 3 to 6 and includes breaks to keep everyone refreshed and engaged. Whether you choose the half-day or full-day option, your child will have a memorable and enriching holiday experience.
Places are limited, so early booking is recommended to secure a spot for your vacation care group.
Choose between a half-day program (2.5 hours) or a full-day program (4.5 hours) during the NSW school holidays. Sessions include:
- Convict Prison Tour: Step back in time and hear stories about the island's convict history.
- Craft Activities: Enjoy creative tasks such as colouring and Lego building.
- First Nations Sports Games: Learn and play traditional games.
- Build Your Own Model Crane: Construct a miniature working crane using recycled materials inspired by the island's industrial heritage.
Children are expected to bring their own food and drinks, and all programs include breaks between sessions.
The program takes place at Cockatoo Island, Sydney Harbour, with the meeting point at the Visitor Centre. The easiest way to reach the island is by ferry, with services operating daily from Circular Quay, Barangaroo, and other wharves along the Parramatta River.
Public transport options include the F3 and F8 ferry services. On-street parking is available near ferry wharves, and coach parking is accessible at Clarkes Point Reserve Carpark.
Participants should come prepared with suitable walking shoes, sun protection, and wet weather gear if needed.
Children must bring their own food and drinks, as outside food is not permitted on the island. The Marina Cafe and Bar is available for pre-arranged group meals.
The island is mostly wheelchair accessible, though some areas have steep inclines and uneven surfaces due to its industrial heritage.
Cancellations by the provider require 5 business days' notice to avoid fees. Extreme weather may cause cancellations with notifications provided one business day prior.
The half-day program costs $40 per child, and the full-day program costs $60 per child. Supervisors attend free of charge. Prices exclude ferry travel and food.
Bookings require a minimum of 10 children with a supervision ratio of 1:10. Payment is due 5 business days before the program date.
To book, complete the enquiry form and select your preferred program, sessions, date, and timeslot. Early booking is advised as places are limited.
