Join Anna the Urban Nanna for an engaging and creative workshop where children transform unwanted old clothes into charming mini rugs. This hands-on activity encourages recycling and creativity, perfect for school-aged kids eager to learn a new craft.
Children will use simple materials found around the home and a homemade loom to weave fabric into a mini rug suitable for a teddy or doll’s house. It’s also a practical craft, as the mini rug doubles as a cozy coaster for warm winter drinks.
This workshop is designed for beginner crafters who can follow simple directions and work independently for short periods. Kids must be able to use scissors unassisted for basic cutting.
The workshop runs for one hour, from 10:30 to 11:30 in the morning, providing a focused and fun crafting session. It’s held on Monday, 6 July 2026, making it a perfect mid-year school holiday activity.
The session is tailored for school-aged children, offering a safe and supportive environment to develop fine motor skills and creativity. Anna the Urban Nanna brings warmth and expertise, ensuring every child feels encouraged and inspired.
Participants will leave with their own handmade mini rug, a tangible reminder of their new weaving skills and a unique piece made from recycled materials.
The workshop takes place at the Coburg Library Makerspace, located at the corner of Victoria Street and Louisa Street in Coburg. This accessible venue is well-equipped for creative activities and easy to reach by public transport or car.
Coburg Library Makerspace offers a welcoming community environment, perfect for families looking to engage in educational and creative pursuits.
Parking and public transport options are available nearby, making it convenient for parents to drop off and pick up their children.
Children must be able to use scissors independently for basic cutting tasks to participate safely in the workshop. Parents should ensure their child is comfortable with this skill before registering.
Materials are provided, but children are encouraged to bring any old clothes they wish to recycle into their mini rug.
This activity promotes sustainability and creative reuse, aligning with eco-friendly values and teaching children the importance of reducing waste.
The workshop is free to attend, but places are limited and registration is required to secure a spot. Interested families should contact Merri-bek City Council to register.
