What to Expect
Discover a vibrant space for kids and young people curious about their place in the world through contemporary dance. These workshops focus on improvisation and movement creation, encouraging self-trust and team communication. Your child will explore professional choreography and develop creative agency in a supportive environment.
The workshops are tailored for two age groups: pre-professional and emerging dancers on March 15th, and 12-16 year olds on March 29th. Both sessions offer a unique chance to learn from choreographers involved in the Where We Are Triple Bill.
Expect an engaging blend of warm-up technique, repertoire learning, and improvisation tasks that foster adaptability and personal expression.
Activity Details
Each workshop runs for three hours on a Sunday morning, from 9:30 to 12:30. Participants will start with a contemporary technique warm-up focusing on body awareness and safe movement. Then, they will learn excerpts from works by Miki L Rolton, Ash Furniss, and India Stewart-Williams, gaining insight into diverse choreographic styles.
Improvisation sessions use creative scores and tasks to encourage decision-making and individual interpretation within structured frameworks. These activities build confidence, community, and courage, the core values of the program.
The workshops are free to attend, and booking a ticket grants access to concession-priced tickets for the accompanying performances in March.

The workshops take place at Mervyn Fletcher Hall, 81 Dalhousie Street, Haberfield NSW 2045. This accessible venue offers a welcoming environment for young dancers.
