What to Expect
Bring your little ones aged two to five for a delightful and interactive session at ACMI, where young learners can explore the fascinating world of screen culture. Each month offers a fresh theme, ensuring a new and exciting experience every time. This program encourages creativity and learning through play, perfect for curious preschoolers accompanied by their carers.
The sessions are designed to be engaging and hands-on, providing children with opportunities to create and discover concepts related to film, TV, videogames, and digital art. Parents, grandparents, or carers stay with the children throughout, making it a wonderful family activity.
Expect a warm, welcoming environment with pram parking and nappy changing facilities available, making it convenient for families with young children.
Activity Details
Each session lasts about 30 minutes, focusing on a unique theme. For example, on Friday 20th March, children will explore animation by making their own pre-cinematic toy called a thaumatrope. This hands-on activity introduces basic animation concepts in a fun and accessible way.
The program runs on the 3rd or 4th Friday of each month at 10:30 AM, providing a regular opportunity for families to engage with creative learning.
Please note this is not a drop-off session; carers must stay with their children at all times to support and enjoy the experience together.
Location and Access
The sessions take place in the Swinburne Studio on Level 1 at ACMI, located in Federation Square, Melbourne/Naarm. This central location is easily accessible by public transport and offers a vibrant cultural setting.
Families can also enjoy additional free time exploring the museum’s exhibitions, including the Play School: Come and Play! exhibition, which complements the preschoolers’ activities.
Facilities such as pram parking and nappy changing areas are available to ensure a comfortable visit for families with young children.
