Engage in a meaningful research project led by artist and researcher Dr Alex Martinis Roe, focusing on how histories of resistance, peace activism, and women's liberation are passed down through generations. This project offers a rare opportunity to contribute your stories or those of women connected to these movements.
Participants will take part in recorded interviews or conversations, usually lasting about an hour, conducted in person where possible. The project values your voice and ensures you have full control over how your contribution is represented.
This is a chance to be part of a creative and historical exploration that will culminate in films, exhibitions, publications, and educational resources, connecting personal histories to broader social movements.
The project combines recorded interviews, archival research, workshops, and artistic methods. It is particularly interested in daughters—by birth or close relationship—of women involved in resistance and liberation movements during and after WWII and anti-colonial struggles.
Participants will receive clear project information, consent forms, and topic lists beforehand, allowing time to consider and ask questions. You will also have the opportunity to review your contribution before public sharing.
The project welcomes community members, historians, archivists, artists, and activists who can contribute their experience or expertise.
This project is based at Hazelhurst, located at 782 Kingsway, Gymea NSW, Australia. Interviews and conversations are held in person where possible, providing a welcoming and accessible environment.
Hazelhurst Gallery and Shop are open daily from 10:00 to 16:00, with extended hours at the Arts Centre. The venue is easily accessible and supported by the Sutherland Shire Council.
Participation involves a recorded interview or conversation lasting about an hour. You will receive plain-language project information and consent forms before taking part.
You have full control over your contribution, including the chance to review how it is represented publicly.
The project is ongoing until December 4, 2026, and is part of a larger exhibition opening in late 2027.
