Immerse yourself in nature and make a real difference by joining the Gordons Bay Bushcare group. This long-standing community initiative focuses on restoring and maintaining the beautiful coastal heath reserve, once overrun by weeds. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy the outdoors while contributing to environmental conservation.
You’ll work alongside experienced Bushcare Officers and fellow volunteers, learning about indigenous plants and sustainable bush regeneration techniques. The sessions are hands-on and rewarding, perfect for parents wanting to engage their school-aged children in meaningful outdoor activities.
Expect to get your hands dirty with maintenance weeding and revegetation tasks, all while enjoying stunning views of the coast. It’s a great way to connect with nature and other local families who share a passion for the environment.
The Bushcare sessions take place monthly, every first Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The program runs until December 4, 2026, offering multiple opportunities to participate throughout the year. No prior experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome to join this family-friendly activity.
Volunteers will be guided through the tasks by Council’s Bushcare Officers, ensuring a safe and educational experience. It’s recommended to wear sturdy shoes, sun protection, and bring water to stay hydrated during the morning sessions.
This activity is ideal for parents looking for a fulfilling way to spend quality time with their children outdoors while teaching them about local ecology and conservation efforts.
The sessions are held at Gordons Bay, accessible via Major Street, Coogee. This location offers a beautiful coastal setting with easy access for families. Parking is available nearby, and public transport options serve the Coogee area.
The site is an open natural reserve, so volunteers should be prepared for uneven terrain and outdoor conditions. It’s a peaceful spot that combines environmental restoration with spectacular views, making it a rewarding place to volunteer.
