What to Expect
Experience a unique and engaging school holiday program designed especially for Year 5–6 students. This five-day event combines gardening, art, mapping, storytelling, and creative projects to explore themes of food, nature, and community. Children will be inspired to imagine fairer and more sustainable futures while having fun and learning together.
Participants will connect with local gardeners, explore the community garden, and engage in hands-on activities that build confidence, creativity, and a sense of agency. No prior gardening or art experience is needed, making this program inclusive and accessible for all interests and abilities.
Activity Details
This program runs from Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July 2026, daily from 12:00 to 16:00. It is hosted at the Randwick Sustainability Hub's Sustainable Classroom and is facilitated by Emma Bleasel, a doctoral researcher from the University of Technology Sydney.
The small-group format (10–12 students) ensures personalized attention and a supportive environment. Activities include creative sustainability workshops, planting and caring for living things, and collaborative problem-solving for healthier communities.
Location and Access
The event takes place at the Randwick Sustainability Hub, located at 27 Munda Street, Randwick NSW 2031. The venue is designed for outdoor and indoor activities, providing a safe and inspiring space for children to learn and explore.
Families should prepare their children with a hat, water bottle, lunch, closed-toe shoes, and comfortable outdoor clothing to ensure a pleasant experience. The location is accessible and suitable for young participants.
Important Information
This is a free program, but bookings are essential due to limited places. Registration is required via Eventbrite before attending. After registration, families will receive participant information and consent forms.
The program is part of a PhD research project investigating how creative, place-based learning supports youth participation in environmental and community action. It is supervised with ethical and wellbeing protocols in place to ensure a safe and positive experience.
