Step into the fascinating world of movie magic with this hands-on green screen masterclass. Perfect for beginners, you'll learn how visual effects (VFX) are created from start to finish, guided by expert filmmakers from The Story Mill. Whether you're dreaming of making your own films or just curious about the creative process, this workshop will empower you to transform videos with confidence.
You'll get to shoot your own green screen scene in a professional studio and master the basics of video editing using the free DaVinci Resolve software. By the end, you'll leave with a finished VFX shot and the skills to continue creating at home.
This is a unique opportunity to explore filmmaking techniques in a supportive and creative environment, ideal for parents looking to inspire their children or try something new themselves.
The workshop covers the entire visual effects process, including shooting, keying, compositing, and refining footage. The session is led by Sophie Saville and Rowan Devereux, experienced filmmakers passionate about sharing their expertise.
Participants will:

This class is suitable for complete beginners and offers a practical introduction to filmmaking and digital effects.
The event takes place at Hurstville Library, located at the corner of Queens Road and Dora Street, Hurstville. The Media Lab features a professional studio setup including a cyclorama wall, green screens, studio lights, and Surface Studios with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Library membership allows access to a digital tool library with cameras and recording equipment available for free borrowing. The venue is committed to accessibility and inclusive services; participants can request support or accommodations by contacting the library.
Bookings are essential and must be made in advance. No refunds are available for cancellations or missed bookings, and program swapping is not permitted. Arriving more than 10 minutes late may result in losing your spot to standby attendees.
The workshop will not be recorded or accessible after the scheduled time. If you cannot attend, please cancel at least 3 hours prior to avoid future booking refusals.
