This engaging workshop invites teens to dive into the art of patchwork quilting, creating their own unique patchwork block. They will learn essential hand-sewing techniques using quilting needles and master the classic straight-seam method to join fabric pieces.
Participants will explore the importance of fabric choice, considering weight, color, and pattern direction to achieve beautiful results. The session also covers mixing and matching fabrics and threads to create effective color balances.
Students will practice safe cutting techniques using a quilters rule and rotary cutters to produce perfectly sized patch pieces. They will also be guided on designing their own patchwork blocks for future projects by drafting onto grid paper.
This workshop is perfect for teens interested in creative crafts and developing new skills in textile arts. A waiver is required for teens attending independently to allow them to leave at the end of the class.
The workshop takes place at Waverley Woollahra Art School, located at 138 Bondi Rd, Bondi NSW 2026. The venue is accessible and welcoming, providing a supportive environment for young creatives.
Students must remain on-site during morning tea and lunch breaks. Those enrolled for the full day will have a supervised lunch break.
Please ensure your teen arrives on time and is prepared for a morning of focused crafting. The workshop runs from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
If your teen will be leaving independently, completing the waiver is essential for their safety and compliance.
Materials and tools will be provided, so no prior experience is necessary.
The cost for this workshop is $80 per child. Booking is required to secure a place.
