Experience a magical transformation at Peterson Ave Reserve with a medieval-themed playground designed to spark imagination and creative play for children. The new playground will feature a grand play castle named Peterson’s Castle and a smaller cubby house called Lutana’s Keep, both crafted with unique treasure chests built by local Trott Park Men’s Shed members.
Children will delight in interactive play panels, slides, and spin bars, alongside classic playground additions such as a new swing, scooter path, stepping logs, and a drinking fountain. This enchanting environment encourages make-believe and outdoor fun, perfect for families seeking engaging activities for their school-aged children.
The playground upgrade is part of a larger $14.5 million Open Space Plan by Marion Council, enhancing 18 open spaces and playgrounds to create vibrant community hubs.
The playground upgrade includes:
- A medieval-themed play castle and cubby house with custom shields and treasure chests
- A sword in a stone feature inspired by King Arthur’s legend
- Interactive play panels, slides, and spin bars
- New swing sets, scooter paths, stepping logs, and a drinking fountain
This project is a collaboration between the City of Marion and Trott Park Men’s Shed, showcasing community involvement and craftsmanship.
Peterson Ave Reserve is located in Mitchell Park, within the City of Marion. The park is easily accessible by car and public transport, with ample parking nearby. Families can enjoy the surrounding green spaces and walking paths, making it an ideal spot for a full day of outdoor activities.
The playground is designed to be welcoming and safe for children of various ages, with features that encourage both active play and imaginative adventures.
The playground upgrade is scheduled for completion early next year, ensuring a fresh, new play space for the community to enjoy. The design is based on community consultation to meet local family needs.
Parents are encouraged to supervise their children during play and respect the park’s facilities. The castle and cubby house are sturdy and safe, but care should be taken with interactive elements.
