Dive into the creative world of textile art by making your own patchwork portrait. This engaging workshop invites participants to use scrap fabrics and sewing machines to craft a unique representation of themselves or someone special. The quilting technique taught will transform thread into a decorative feature, adding depth and texture to your artwork.
You'll also explore the works of contemporary Australian and international textile artists, gaining inspiration and insight into this vibrant art form. This is a perfect opportunity for teens to develop their sewing skills and artistic expression in a supportive environment.
Basic sewing experience is recommended to fully enjoy the session, which is tailored for ages 13 to 18.
The workshop is led by Amelia Skelton, an emerging multidisciplinary artist passionate about textile arts. Participants will arrange and pin fabrics before stitching, learning how to combine colors and textures effectively.
This hands-on experience encourages creativity and patience, as the quilting technique requires careful stitching to make the thread an essential part of the artwork. The session lasts three hours, providing ample time to complete a meaningful piece.
Materials and sewing machines will be provided, so just bring your enthusiasm and readiness to create.
The event takes place at Stanmore Library, located within Stanmore Reserve on Douglas Street, Stanmore NSW 2048. The library is accessible by public transport and offers a welcoming community space for creative activities.
Parking is available nearby, and the venue is suitable for young participants with adult supervision not required but welcomed.
This central location makes it easy for families in the Inner West to attend and enjoy a creative day out.
This workshop is free to attend but requires registration via Eventbrite to secure your place. It is designed for teenagers aged 13 to 18 with some basic sewing skills.
All necessary materials and equipment will be supplied, but participants should wear comfortable clothing suitable for crafting.
The session runs from 11:00 to 14:00 on Sunday, 2026-10-04. Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled in.
Attendance is free, making this an accessible opportunity for families looking for creative school holiday activities. Booking is essential and can be completed online through the Eventbrite link provided by the Inner West Council.
