The Little Long Walk is a vibrant community event inspired by Michael Long’s 2004 walk to Canberra, which raised awareness and advocated for the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This event offers a meaningful way for families to engage with Indigenous culture and community spirit.
Begin the day with a respectful Welcome to Country, followed by an insightful talk from The Long Walk team. Children and families can then enjoy a range of cultural activities including banner making and participation in the Marngrook program, featuring traditional games, storytelling, language lessons, art, and hands-on learning about tools and artefacts.
After the activities, join the community walk around Sunvale Community Park, fostering connection and celebration of the local environment. The event concludes with a delicious BBQ provided by the Sunshine Lions Club, perfect for relaxing and socialising.
