The Little Long Walk is a vibrant community event inspired by Michael Long’s 2004 walk to Canberra, which raised awareness for the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This event invites families to come together to celebrate culture, community, and connection in a welcoming environment.
What to Expect
Begin your day with a respectful Welcome to Country, followed by an insightful talk from The Long Walk team. Children and families will enjoy engaging cultural activities including banner making and the Marngrook program, which features traditional games, storytelling, language lessons, art, and hands-on learning about tools and artefacts.
After the activities, join the community for a walk around Sunvale Community Park, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. The event concludes with a delicious BBQ provided by the Sunshine Lions Club, perfect for relaxing and socialising.
