Discover the art of weaving in a welcoming workshop led by Aunty Annette Houston, a Gangulu woman and long-term Wollondilly resident. This creative session invites participants to engage with sustainable and reclaimed materials, fostering a deep appreciation for caring for country. Everyone will leave with their own unique woven piece, making it a memorable and meaningful experience.
The workshop is beginner-friendly and open to anyone aged 16 and above, making it a perfect opportunity for parents and teens to explore Indigenous art and culture together. Light refreshments will be provided to keep you energized throughout the morning.
The workshops run on two Wednesdays: 12th August and 26th August 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00. Each session lasts three hours, offering plenty of time to learn and create.
All materials needed for weaving are supplied, so you just need to bring your enthusiasm and curiosity. The sessions are funded by the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan Caring for Country Council Grants Program, ensuring a free and accessible experience for the community.
The workshops take place at the Robin Davies Wollondilly Community Nursery, located on Wonga Road, Picton. This venue is surrounded by nature, providing a peaceful and inspiring setting for creativity.
The nursery is accessible by car with parking available on-site. It is recommended to check local transport options if you prefer public transit. The venue supports a relaxed and inclusive environment suitable for all participants.
Participants must be aged 16 years or older. The workshop is suitable for beginners with no prior experience required.
