Immerse yourself in nature and make a real difference by joining the Maroubra Dunes Bushcare program. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to connect with the environment while helping to protect a fragile coastal ecosystem. You’ll work alongside Council’s Bushcare Officers to maintain and restore the native vegetation that thrives in the dunes.
Expect hands-on activities such as removing invasive weeds and planting indigenous species to support biodiversity. The beach dunes are a unique and sensitive vegetation community, challenged by salt-laden winds and harsh sun, so your efforts are vital.
This monthly volunteer event is perfect for parents looking to engage their children in meaningful outdoor activities that teach environmental stewardship.
The Bushcare sessions run every month on the first Thursday, from 09:00 to 12:00. These three-hour sessions provide a great morning outdoors, combining light physical activity with education about local flora and fauna.
Volunteers will be guided through tasks such as weeding and planting, learning about the importance of coastal ecosystems and the challenges they face. It’s a rewarding way to contribute to your community and enjoy fresh air and exercise.
Suitable for adults and older children who can participate safely in outdoor work. Remember to wear sun protection, sturdy shoes, and bring water.
Meet at the car park near South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club, a convenient and accessible spot for families. The location is close to the beach, offering beautiful coastal views and a chance to enjoy the natural surroundings before or after the session.
Parking is available at the meeting point, and public transport options are nearby for easy access. This setting makes it simple to combine the Bushcare activity with a family day out at the beach.
